5 - I Only Use Professional Photographic Equipment
As the pixel count of consumer cameras creeps ever upward, many “semi-pro” photographers have appeared, expecting their point-and-shoot cameras to now be as readily capable as professional kit. However, your camera’s pixel count, while important, isn’t the whole story. Although so-called “prosumer” cameras may make for some fantastic holiday snaps, the quality of lenses and in-camera digital processing still falls far short of more costly pro-level gear. And that’s not even to mention the knowledge and expertise in how to use it.
Put simply, if a £200 camera could really do the job as well as a £2000 camera, why would professionals ever spend more than we have to? The fact is that professional gear exists for a reason: Used correctly, it produces a professional result. Anything less is just amateur.

I first started taking photographs with a Halina 110 camera, given to me by my mum to take on a school trip to London in 1985, when I was ten years old. Three years later I took GCSE Photography, learnt to use an SLR and to develop and print my own images in the darkroom.
Since then I’ve put countless hours of photography experience under my belt, both in the studio and on location, as well as eight years working as a television studio director. These, coupled with my completion of professional courses, study of photography books and magazines, and thousands upon thousands of miles of global travel, all illustrate that I’m no newcomer to viewing life through a lens.
